Be the Dad You Want to Be…Before It’s Too Late
Perhaps the most important tool in Hold On to Your N.U.T.s is “Silence the Little Boy.” It’s that little boy in our men that keeps them from being the best husbands and fathers they can be. This little boy is the guy who never learned what it meant to be a man, the little one who was never initiated into manhood. And so we may be 30, 40 or 50 years old, but many of our behaviors and important decisions are still being influenced by that hurt, confused and angry little boy inside.
Despite our age, we can definitely learn to silence the little boy. It isn’t easy. But if we’re motivated, we can certainly do it. And if you have children, it is your OBLIGATION to grow up and to be the man of your house. After all, your sons will grow up to be men like you and, by the way, your daughters will marry men like you. Do you now understand how important this is? It’s not just about you anymore.
But wouldn’t it have been so much easier if we had just learned these tools when we were younger? Wouldn’t it have been so much less painful if our fathers knew to teach us and to share this wisdom? Of course. But that train has left the station. It’s now up to you!
As fathers, it’s our responsibility to teach our boys what it means to be men, the importance of asking for help, and the tools men need to be happy in their successful long-term relationships. Be the father you’ve always wanted to be by learning the tools you never learned. It’s not too late. Your sons are waiting—and watching!
