He doesn’t sit back on a couch and lob questions in some kind of one-sided way. Instead, you can have a real conversation with him, as I have for almost two years now in dealing with issues in my life. No doubt, Wayne listens well and knows his stuff, but he a...
Spiritual Coaching for Men
I’m Wayne M. Levine. When I published my book, Hold On to Your N.U.T.s—The Relationship Manual for Men in 2007, my life looked completely different than it does today.
I was 24 years into a marriage that would end seven years later, I was constantly on edge about the size and health of my business, and I was becoming more and more exhausted trying to convince myself that I was happier than I knew I really was.
I felt alone in my struggle to make it all work—to be successful in business (whatever that meant,) to find joy in my life, to figure out my purpose, and to keep the anxiety and depression at bay. There were times when I was just barely hanging on.
But then came a day when, in a conversation after a yoga class, when I had the realization that would change my life. And that realization was this: I needed adventure in my life.
And as I began trying new things, going to new places, meeting new people, attending trainings, retreats and experiences of all kinds, I learned that I was now on a spiritual journey, one that would eventually lead me to becoming a spiritual coach for men.
I had not been raised with religion or any other notion of spirituality. I was the youngest of three boys, and my struggling, overworked and exhausted single mother didn’t have time to supervise all of us (more of my personal story can be found in my book Hold On to Your N.U.T.s–The Relationship Manual for Men). I knew that I could only rely on myself to “make shit happen.” But when things became difficult along the way, and just relying on my own counsel stopped working, I had no idea what to do next. It’s a terrifying place to be.
I’m grateful that some force within pushed me to discover that there was so much more for me in this life than I ever could have imagined.
My journey led me to destinations and teachers around the world. I visited prayer circles and shamans from many cultures. I learned about body work and energy practices. I attended plant medicine ceremonies, silent retreats and “spiritual” festivals. Finally, I brought my insights back to the men I coached individually and in groups. Soon, this spiritual component, which had been missing from my life for 50 years, became an integral part of my teaching and coaching practice. Whether or not you realize it, you could benefit from a spiritual coach for men.
I discovered what many before me had already discovered; all of life is a spiritual journey, if only we open our hearts and minds to experience it, to allow it.
Today, as a spiritual coach for men, I bring that spiritual perspective to my coaching, whether discussing how you might develop your own spiritual practice, or simply as a context in which we strategize how to best navigate your relationship with your partner, children, career, and life’s transitions.
