What do we do with all the shame that we feel? The shame that we’re carrying with us over the years for some of the poor choices that we’ve made, some of the things we said that hurt, some of the things that embarrassed us or others. What do we do with all that? How do you let it go, how do you keep it from just constantly pulling you down?
Well, as someone who has a long list of things that I feel shame over, or I have felt shame over, and something I’m still working on, it’s a daily practice of letting go. You can do that in mediation and prayer. You can do that in moving energy through your body, being aware that the shame you feel is just energy that is still in your body that needs to move out.
Forgiveness is a huge part of this process, forgiving yourself for having just done what you needed to do at the time or doing the best you could or just being human. We all make mistakes, we all get overwhelmed with emotion, and we all do things that we wish we hadn’t.
Think about what you need to do to let go of the shame that you’re carrying so that you can walk about a little lighter and happier and a little bit more loving and with compassion for yourself.
